This mural is a rare find. Quarried from our "Fossil Lake" stone layer, this mural contains a rare 23" Paddlefish Corssopholis magnicaudatus along with a 5-1/4" Diplomysuts dentatus, and a 4-3/4" Knightia eocaena. The paddlefish is among the hardest-to-find fossils in the Green RIver Formation. It was a shark-like fish made almost entirely of  cartilaginous bones that did not fossilize. That is why we don't see a prominent vertebrate or rib bones found in most Green RIver fossil fish. In the areas that did have bone, like the fins and the long rostrum or nose, one can see excellent detail including the the fine star-shaped stellate bones. These fine bones were used as antenna to detect small plankton in the water while feeding. Paddlefish can still be found today in parts of North America.

The mural is supplied backed in wood and framed in a hand-made Wenge wood frame. We have attached a two part French cleat to the back for easy hanging. The mural ships in a custom made wood crate, fully insured against loss or damage.
