Mural Back showing French cleat

This superb fossil palm flower was quarried from the Fossil Lake Classic stone layer in our private fossil quarry. Fine-quality fossil plants are quite rare in the Green River Formation. Palm flowers are among the hardest to find. Palm trees do not produce "flowers" in the traditional sense. Instead, they produce inflorescences, which are stalks that emerge from the trunk of the tree and eventually develop into fruit. Finding a complete palm flower is also quite rare due to the delicate nature of the limbs on the stalk. The indentification of a specific species can also be a challenge, as the fossils are often found unattached to the palm leaves or tree. The fossils date to the Early Eocene, approximately 50 million years old.

The mural is supplied backed in wood, with a handmade Wenge wood frame. An aluminum French cleat has been added to the back for easy hanging. It ships in a custom-made wood crate, fully insured against loss or damage. It arrives ready for immediate installation.
